Need Scan Tool

I'm looking for a semi-pro Scan Tool that can read engine, body and climate codes.. read position sense voltage, and maybe send commands to actuators. Already have a model #87702 Craftsman branded Innova 3100 CanOBD-2 which (I think) can read only engine codes?

It will only be used a few times a year.. no need for a heavy duty, daily use unit.

Any suggestions?

Send commands to actuators? That means a bi-directional scan tool, very costly.....also beware of cheap Tech II's made in China.....

If you want to read codes, clear codes, read data, Check out the Elm 327 Bluetooth, and then get the Torque app for your android phone or tablet.....lot of people rave about this system, that costs practically nothing....

Yeah.. I'd like to drive air mix doors, etc.

Went to an ACDelco Scan Tool seminar last night in Dulles, Virginia. Nice student workbook which covers Tech 2, Tech2Win, GDS-2, MDI and other products from Snap-on (Verus), Drew, and Mongoose.

It was depressing though. Very expensive tools, and software that needs monthly and even weekly license renewal. Seems like a racket, or a highly protected industry. I'm not looking for a universal service tool with frequent code updates. Instead.. need a bi-directional Tech tool for a 1997 Buick that doesn't cost five grand.

Edit: didn't realized the Tech 2 units were so big! Very substantial. They had one on the table that you could see and handle.

Try E Bay for an outdated Snap On or such that is no longer up- dateable.
