99 Sub K1500 distributor

Hey all. I dropped one of two screws holding my distributor in place and have been to auto parts stores and hardware store to find replacement, but it seems to be a specially made screw. Any ideas where I can get a replacement? Maybe dealer, will have to check them, too.

The diameter matches an M4, but the threads are like 1.00 pitch or 24 tpi - is my best guess, and about 5/8 inches long.

Welcome to AF. I'm thinking that you're talking about the the screws that hold the Dist Cap in place, as there are two of those, and only one that clamps the Dist itself.

What to do next? Maybe a very bright light and a long slim magnet to fish around the back of the block for the lost one? Maybe a trip to the local salvage yard? And of course there's always a trip to the dealer.

When you do get a replacement, do not over tighten either one!! Max torque is 21 lb/in.

If all else fails parts places have them with a new dist. cap and sometimes new rotor has screw with it.
When Gm. engineer's made that cap they were laughing at how many people would lose screws.
Good luck

Yep, a trip to the junk yard proved very rewarding. Paid $2 to get in and $1.17 in parts - 1 screw, 1 short under the seat spring, and one connecting rod for the sliding seat. Would have gotten two screws, but my driver was too long with the magnet attachment.
