!998 buick regal gs nightmare CAR

First Forum ive ever joined cause I am a Buick Lover!! please help!!

1998 buick regal gs. My problem is when i throw my turn singal on at a stop or coming to a stop the car completly shuts off. ALSO now i have the problem with when that occurs i try to start it and now it wont do anything! THEN once started the brake light and the anti lock light with the trac light is on and wont let me move the gear shifter out of park! please help me im trying to support my two young boys and girlfriend with this car to get me to the place i really need to be. What is this problem i am having?

Ya gotta start with the basics.Check your battery cables and connections. They gotta be clean and tight.Same with the cables and wiring connections on the starter motor.Then get the battery and alternator tested. Battery should have at least 12.6 volts with the engine and everything off. Alternator should be charging at least 14 volts. HTH

This sounds like a bad ground somewhere and circuit is backfeeding.......did this just happen out of the blue, or did it happen AFTER some work was done on the vehicle? Does this vehicle have any after market options installed on it? As DeltaP suggested, check those connections....

Ok, that means codes are set....places like AutoZone will scan your car for codes for free.....



and wont let me move the gear shifter out of park!

When you can't move the vehicle out of Park, you have a problem with the BTSI solenoid circuit.......to the right of your shifter should be a small rectangular cap......when the car starts and can't be shifted out of Park, with your foot on the brake, remove the cap and using a long pen or screwdriver, insert it into the hole and push down a lever....this will allow you to shift out of park...

Thank u for the replies i will try working on this today and no aftermarket parts r on the vehicle. And yes just happened out of no where. I will try to check these things out but autzone wont be able to scan for my anti loc because there is no check engine light on

Our local Autozone has a scan tool that reads PCM and ABS codes......the light does not have to be on, to read a "history" code....it will be stored....

Sounds like elecrical problems, or Lose vacum line. Get your Check Engine light checked, you must have one on.

ALSO now i have the problem with when that occurs i try to start it and now it wont do anything!

Sounds electrical aswell. Spray some starting fluid into the intake, if the engine turns but doesnt start, its electrical/Ignition. If the engine Does starts but dies, its fuel related. If the engine starts and runs, could be fuel or sensors. Check your fuel preassure if it starts but dies.

the ABS light is tied to the hubs, Chances are the wheel bearings/hubs are going out. To really find out which one is going out, you need a 5 dollars voltmeter to check the ohms of each wheelbearing/hub assembly. There should be two wires coming out of each one.

Yes, the biggest pain in the a, well almost. Mine has done this for several years. I am able to get it to come out of park by gently, yet firmly, squeezing the button on the shifter, gently yet firmly twisting the shifter and pulling diagnoally towards me. Its how mine comes undone. Of course have foot on brake. It could also be the brake sensor, but I doubt it. Usually its the park solenoid as Tech II explained.
