I live in Houston and have to have the emission testing and vehicle inspection done. The shop that replaced the EGR Valve told me I'd have to drive for a day or so before the info in the computer would be cleared. I took the car to my regular mechanic the next day and they told me 3 days before the info would be cleared.
Does it get cleared by actually driving, or simply be time... If it is time, then how long...If it is driving, then how many miles It is a 1996 Chevrolet Beretta. Thanks:flash: |

I believe your tech is referring to the computer system "re learning".
This usually happens after a two or three mile test drive by the shop that was working on the car, after that is complete and everything is ok they would then let you take the car home. I have never heard of it taking days to do. Especially for an EGR valve. The most critical relearns are for Throttle Position sensors, and Idle air control sensors and prom replacements. Hope this helps you. |
