Started to build my first 1/24 kit.. tamiya 93 Supra. Need some tips and suggestions

heyy guys.. I've started to build my first kit. Please let me know what you guys think. Here are some pics. I have used ordinary $5 spray cans instead of the branded ones since this is my first build, and was quite surprised with the results! What do you guys think??? Suggestions/tips welcome.



A-pillars were damaged from the start ^






Painted but not yet polished ^



Decided to go without any clear coat and used automotive polish to bring the glossy effect. ^ Quite pleased with the outcome given I've never spray painted a kit car before and used an ordinary non branded spray paint for this job.
What do you guys think?





The stock black color for the seats looked too simple so decided to go for two tone.



Building the engine was really interesting. That wass one of the main reason I bought this kit because it came with engine details.



So far so good.



Thats it for now..
will be posting more pics soon along with my diecast collection. (thats something to really watch out for)

Looks fantastic, especially the chassis!

The seats could do with a few coats of flat clear to dull down the shinyness but they still look good. The paint job is great considering there is no clearcoat, you could even give it another polish for more of a shine

Thanks!! you are right about the seats but I don't have any flat black or clear. All I bought for this kit are 3 spray paints, red, gray, black, 2 super glues and one black regular permanent marker. I definitely should have bought the clear but its too late for that. I already fitted the transparent parts and I read somewhere that you shouldn't clear coat on the transparent parts of the kit. Anyway.. the sad part is I accidentally stepped on the spoiler and broke it into three pieces. Trying to fix it now but its not looking good .

The reason I bought this specific kit for my first build.





Now the interior..



Custom pedals, speaker covers on the door, real leather behind the rear seat and that's it. I used whatever I could find around the house to create these custom parts.

Starting to take shape very nicely, I see you've used a sharpie for touch ups, grab yourself some flat or semi gloss black paint in a little tin to do some touch ups as I learnt the hard way with Sharpies. They are great for tiny touch ups in very small places that arent too obvious though.

I like the seats now all the interior is together, looks very nice!

I tend to do all black interiors out of personal taste but its always nice to see people mixing it up well done, keep up the good work sir

You are right, point noted. I'll do that in my next build.

The interior looks better in person. The thing is my camera captures the tiniest of defects in the interior or any flaw in the paint job which you normally wouldn't see or even notice if you were holding the kit under normal light.

At first I went for all black interior according to JDM stock 93' supra spec but that looked too simple. Anyway, I am thinking of adding a dome light for the interior. It won't be white or blueish, maybe white-yellowish like the real car. What do you think?

Yea thats the problem with cameras, they show up every tiny defect that you dont normally see with the naked eye!

Up to you in regards to a dome light. Depends how detailed you wanted to go with the build, can't do any harm though

Any ideas on what you will make it from ?

Don't worry too much if the spoiler doesnt turn out perfect, they look great with or without one anyway

Really great work you're doing!
Spoiler could probably be fixed, but you may want to strip the paint off of it first. Try isoprophyl alcohol. Glue it, sand it & try again

I wanted to go for the light bulbs with pointy heads you used to get in toys in the olden days. They give out kind of yellowish light which I want but I can't seem to find any that is working. Probably will have to settle for LEDs instead and a cell phone battery. The other thing I am going to add is a hood prop. Let me know what else I can do with it to make the car more detailed.

btw the spoiler is making me go crazy.

I watched some your youtube videos. Good work. The Chaser is really nice. Did you build it?

Thanks. I stripped the paint with sand paper then glued the broken parts but for some reason it doesn't fit properly. I didn't like the stance or if it was just me I don't know. So tried repairing it, bending it here and there but I totally messed up the whole thing. Still working on it.

Your 1:12s are simply stunning.
