Exclamation Bose stock radio

Hey guys
must say i have been learning alot from reading the post left by fellow Maxima enthusiast. You guys rock. Anywho noone has commented on the quality of the stock Bose system that comes in the Maxima. It blows the Alpine in my last car (Mazda MX-6). The problem with the Bose is it is a custome job instaled during assembly of the car. Nissan says itis a closed system and not open to mods like EQ's or after amps. Has anyone ever added an amp and sub to the stock bose system?

go to www.maximadriver.com and click on the "how-to" section for how to do some mods on the stereo.

The biggest thing with the Bose is that the speakers have their own individual amps and have an impedance of 1 ohm wheras most ar speakers have an impedance of 4 ohms. this means if you put aftermaket speakers in the Bose, they will be a lot quieter than stock. Not only that, but it also uses a dual antenna setup that helps eliminate static on the radio making addition of a CD changer difficult. And to top it off, Bose uses a 3 conductor system to eliminate noise in the signal from the head unit to the amps.

You can get new Bose speakers from www.carstereohelp.com

Also from that website, you can get diagrams of the pinouts if you are electronically inclined to make your own hookup to the Bose head unit for a CD changer. You can add subs to the Bose system by tapping into the input for the rear speakers (not the amps). Rememebr that the signal to the speakers is designed for a 1 Ohm load, and anything you do is AT YOUR OWN RISK.

But,,, who has a Bose system in a Nissan that works? (or any make of auto) I've got two Nissan's with Bose systems. One does not work at all, the other work when it is in the mood. My sister has a Cadillac with a Bose radio,,,same problem.

I don't care what "PAUL HARVEY" says, I will never purchase another auto with a Bose radio.
