MCR r34 skyline GT-R

heres something ive been working on for a while
its a r34 GT-R Aoshima kit.
MCR (matchless crowd racing) tuned model
features a unique front bar and a gt style rear wing.
i think its mainly used in japan for time attack.

i started this a while ago with no intention of putting up WIP photos so heres where its at now.
after reserching this car, i found i needed a scratch built cage, the bride seat decals are also out sourced and then the takata harness too.

(the rear seats are grey just the lighting makes the colour look weird)

scratch built cage with painted masking tape for foam around drivers head

brakes are also from another kit as the aoshima kit came with std gtr brakes.
fitted larger rotors with 4 pot bremo calipers and PE parts.

hello, yeah thats all in the decals.
it is produced by hobby design. you get the 2 seats and the decals for about $10 from memory.
although i used decals on the seats i got with the kit as they were closer to whats used in this actual car.
the MCR car im replicating had a bride seat for the driver and a bride reclinable race/street seat for the passenger, whereas the hobby design ones were both full on race seats.
also, interestingly, the HD seats were a little high for the car! even though they were 1/24 scale i wasnt too concerned anyway, the aoshima kit came with 2 reclinables and a optional race seat so i just stuck with those.
i bought the HD bride seat kit from my 'local' online shop in australia, but there are many stockists of hobby design, redily available from ebay also.

Re: MCR r34 skyline GT-R

for anyone else doing this exact aoshima model, be wary of this front bar not fitting very well.
ive built 2 other aoshima r34's without any issues, but this one did not want to fit on the chassis well once the bar was fitted.
hence why there is a slightly larger gap where the bar fits to the guard.
anyway, its on there now.
also trying a new radiator/intercooler mesh. the kit has a intercooler as std but looks bad, its really more like a mesh pattern in the styrene than intercooler fins.
so i painted the std one black and that will give the PE mesh a really good look once its all together.....

the kit says to paint bonnet but all pics ive seen of this demo car has bare CF so on with the CF decal.
this is after one coat of micro sol so those creases will be much less visible by the time im finished.

Thanks.
Anyone got any suggestions for a clear coat that won't hurt the decal?
Last time I cleared over a decal it didn't go so well.

Re: MCR r34 skyline GT-R

done a bit more work to this one, all decals on, its almost finished apart from some minor details.
added the black around the headlight, this part ends up under the lens so needs to be painted.

also did the usual seals..

wing on

almost completed! so close.....
