2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Transmission (A Plea for Help!!!!!)

When I first started these posts my Jeep had 14 miles on it. It still has less than 2000 miles and it’s setting at the dealer right now for the 3rd time (in less than 2 months) and they have no clue how to fix the problem.

The issue I have is an intermittent noise, rattle or vibration from the base of the gear shifter usually between 1,800-3000 R.P.M. It seems very much tied to the outside temperature as well. The noise usually only manifests itself on days where the air temperature if greater than 85-90 degrees F.

The dealer has tried to re-torque some things but yet the problem persists. What the dealership did try to do they did not do of their own accord. Everything they tried can from the manufacturer. My daughter and I finally documented the problem and uploaded it to you tube. Please listen to the noise and let us know if you have this problem and were you or the dealership able to eliminate the problem.

I have now had to call the manufacturer myself and escalate this. They are sending a technician from Chrysler to the dealership to look at this problem. My expatiations are low. I’m certain this is NOT limited just to my vehicle.

Sounds like it happens in every gear, and increases as engine rpms increase. That would lead me to believe it's in the clutch.

I am thinking there's a loose bolt on the flywheel, or something like that, or just a bad clutch or bearing from the factory. I'd get them to replace the clutch and flywheel.

It could also be an input shaft on the transmission having a bad bearing also.

There was definitely a noise for sure but it was NOT the transmission!!!
If your Jeep is making this noise then I know the problem for sure…

I did not figure it out. It was only through the forums that someone (user “kta2402”) had the right answer.
There is a cable that connects the transfer case shifter knob to the transfer case. The cable is very similar to a bicycle cable. There is a hard outer sheath with an inner cable that actually moves (extends or retracts) relative to the outer sheath.
This hard outer sheath has upward pressure on the underside of the center console. Under certain conditions this cable “rattles” like craze. See image below (I stole this image from user “kta2402”…)


While you are I there check the wiring harness as well. I recommend wrapping both with something soft. Once you do there is no more noise.

Well, apparently there is now a TSB out on this issue.

I took my 2013 Wrangler Sport to the dealership for an oil change last week and they informed me that they did a TSB repair down near the shifter.

My Jeep did not have any noise to begin with. Probably just double check things and made the necessary adjustments. All good!
