Peugeot 405 Pikes Peak 1/24 (Reji + Tamiya)
This is my new project, the Peugeot 405 that race with Vatanen at Pike's Peak. in the late 80's.
I decide to start the kit after seeing some photos with Loeb's car and her predecessor. My hope is that someone will produce the Loeb car, in the meanwhile I will build the 405. For this project I use the Tamiya kit, Shunko decal an Reji transkit. The Tamiya kit is well known, so nothing more to add. The Shunko decals are necerrary because they have better colors comparing with Tamiya ones. (the blue used by Shunko match exactly the real car color). The problem is that the decals haven't the complete livery scheme, but only the blue stripes that surround the blue areas. It means that I have to paint both the white and the blue. The transkit is well done, but have some lacks of detail and missing parts, especially in the body as we can see later. here a pic of the real car.

Re: Peugeot 405 Pikes Peak 1/24 (Reji + Tamiya)
I start correct the front wing which is narrow and doesn't have the panel lines that divide the carbon fiber zone from the paint one.
![]() I prepare a plastic guide to scribe the panel lines and I drill several holes for the rivets. I have also added a 0,75 plastic sheet to each side to enlarge the wing ![]()

Re: Peugeot 405 Pikes Peak 1/24 (Reji + Tamiya)
Here a preview wits some primer on.
![]() I have to fix also the front grille because the joining is not precise. A small plastic triangle is added to solve the problem. ![]() ![]() Now I use some putty to smooth the joint and to wide the wheel arches.

Hi Ric, I'm happy to see you building this great famous Peugeot beast !
Your start on the model is already promissing. I recently bought the Renaissance kit, so I will follow you build very closely as for sure I'll find good tips to build mine !!

Re: Peugeot 405 Pikes Peak 1/24 (Reji + Tamiya)
Now I give my attention to the wheels. The Reji rims aren't satisfactory because have the 4 fixing bolts really far from the center line.
I drill the rims and replace the center with a new one taken from the spare parts box (I can't remeber what rims is). Then i realize a small mold to replicate the rims. ![]() I glued the rear hood provided with the transkit to the body and added a small plastic lip to the front fenders. Then a coat of primer to see the body complete. This is the result ![]() ![]()

Quote:
I use the old Reji Tkit, bought from Nimpex in the 2006 if I am not wrong...more simple, less detailed and more cheap, but it does his work...I hope! |

Re: Peugeot 405 Pikes Peak 1/24 (Reji + Tamiya)
Now it is time to paint.
The procedure is the same, tamiya primer, Zero white, Zero blue (I have mixed several blue and white to match the decals) than 2K clear. I placed the decals, and was one of the most difficult decalling I have done. The small blue stripes are designed for the Tamy kit that has different bumpers and wings so is necessary to do cut and paste small decal pieces to surround the blue areas. In addition there aren't spare stripes, so you can't fail if you want to complete the livery. After the decals a second coat of 2K clear. For the front wing I use the KA Models carbon decals (pattern B) and some rivets from TMM. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Peugeot 405 Pikes Peak 1/24 (Reji + Tamiya)
Waow, superb work Ric !
Reji model will do the work but more than Reji you are doing a great work with it. The renaissance kit is nicely detailed, the open option can allow to see the details more, but 190€ is a bit too expensive to me only to see details. So I chose the closed model (160€), I will try my best with details, maybe I'll try to open by myself the rear hood but not sure, will see... For sure Reji transkit is a way cheaper option, I missed it when released and I knew since 2003 that Renaissance was working on the kit so I'm finally happy to have the Renaissance model which is 100% complete including complete decals. |
