04 Escape transmission *stumped*?

Well first off I couldn't remember my old login info, so I had to create a new acct..
Anywho, I have an 04 escape 4.0, 2wd automatic transmission. Mileage is 200k on the odometer, but the engine/ tranny only have around a 100k on em. About 2yrs ago I changed the plugs, and put new valve gaskets on it. Upon driving it I immediately noticed a new problem. When shifting from second to third the engine would rev as if you knocked it into neutral for a second and then it would shift into third. It is NOT slipping mind you, but more like I said its as if it goes into neutral for a second before upshifting to third. And never does it upon down shifting. Additionally, if say you are driving around highway speeds, and you need to give it a little extra acceleration ( to pass a slower car etc) it will downshift normally to get "passing gear" and then upon upshifting it will do the neutral rev again. But under normal driving conditions it only does it between 2nd 3rd. Right now I don't have the transmission model #, but its the one that the filter can't be changed in without tearing it down. I have scoured the old interwebs for close to 2yrs trying to find the culprit as that's how long I've been driving it with this issue! Its gotten where I've learned to take my foot off the accelerator between shifts to keep the engine from revving. ECU doesn't pull any codes, and the closest thing I've found that may or may not fix it is a module that mounts outside the tranny on top of it underneath the MAF/intake that takes a special tool to put it on(forget what its called) or a solenoid in the bottom of the tranny? Like I said I've been driving it for 2yrs or more this way so I figured if it was going out it would have done so by now. As the title says I'm *STUMPED! *
