mine died two weeks ago.

MY cavy had 156 thousand miles on it, and it just dies, i was going about 75 and BOOM, it cought on fire, the fire trucks and everything came, it wasn't a big fire though, anyhoo, the 3rd rod did something funny, and the engine seized up, and i took pretty good care of it, i ran it hard sometimes, but still... it died, so i now own a 1999 pontiac grand am... i miss the cavvy though.

Re: Estimated miles before Cavalier Engine goes bad?

I own a 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier Rs with 2.2 liter 4 cyl 3 speed automatic

It has over 204,000 miles on it,head gasket went at about 197,000 and had it replaced. the Engine is as strong as a new one, still keeps up with all the big dogs. It doesnt burn any oil what so ever! Never has burned oil!

Re: Estimated miles before Cavalier Engine goes bad?

My '90 now has over 450,000km (280,000 miles) on it and still isn't showing any signs of slowing down. Those 3.1 engines are rocks.

Re: Estimated miles before Cavalier Engine goes bad?

I have an 01 2.2 manual and honestly, it runs great. i'm coming close to 140k miles. i've replaced the fuel pump when that went out and something with the thermostat. but other than those two problems, it still runs like new. it shifts hard on occasion but that's about it

Re: Estimated miles before Cavalier Engine goes bad?

after mine hit 100k miles, the only things i've had to replace that have gone bad are my thermostat, and fuel pump. and now the headlight. other than that, it's been nothing except for routine maintenance and she still runs strong.

Re: Estimated miles before Cavalier Engine goes bad?

I have yet to own a car thats rolled past 59K miles. Thats what my 2200 motor in my 99 was at before i yanked it. Still running like she was brand new.

My eco motor has 40k miles on it. Compression is 175, 177, 175, 173 across the board so i'm happy.

My 2.4L Blew at 130+K miles. Only blew because the oil was nearly dry.

Re: Estimated miles before Cavalier Engine goes bad?

I just traded in my 1997 Cavalier for an Equinox. The cav had 275K miles on it. It was still going strong - but the water pump has started to leak a little. I took really good care of it and only used Chevron Gas, changed the oil religiously and took care of any little thing that was worn. I wanted something bigger, so I traded it in. My sister's 1998 Cavalier has 200K miles on it and she still loves it. My daughter's 2000 has 170k miles and it's still going strong. These are good cars if you treat them right and feed them good gas.

Re: Estimated miles before Cavalier Engine goes bad?

I ended up parking my '90 after it was over 465,000 km for various reasons not related to that car itself. Now my younger cousin's gonna use it for his first car, and it'll probably reach 600,000-700,000 km if he changes the oil every 5,000 km like I told him, hehe.
