Anybody ever install a voltmeter in a Windstar?

One of the things I wish I had in my wife's Windstar is a voltmeter. But I always end up with the question of where would I put it. So, has anyone done it already, and if so, where did you mount it? A chrome bracket hanging under the dash is not what I had in mind.

Re: Anybody ever install a voltmeter in a Windstar?

I have not done this.
Some folks add gauges up the driver's side windshield pillar....I seriously doubt that you can buy one specifically for the windstar (I tried a number of years ago for my '96 with no luck).
You would end up using a generic one that you would mount over the pillar......some of your own custom type work.
I know that it sounds a bit over the top mounting gauges there.....but like you......I did not come up with any better location.
I think a pod of several gauges.....in a vertical line would work.....I wanted to install a transmission fluid temperature gauge........which would require the installation of a sensor in the transmission cooling line, or in the pan (I prefer the cooling line).
You can pick up voltage from a lot of different locations.
If you want to install any engine sensor type gauges, there is a nice pass through location with a rectangular grommet up under the drivers side dashboard.
I have it shown in my pictures (remember that my pictures are from my '96).
While they are not as accurate.......electrical sending units would be the way that I would go....they are certainly accurate enough for us.

Before someone asks......the oil pressure switch is located on the passenger end of the engine.....under the bracket that holds the power steering pump and alternator.
I have that shown in my pictures as well.
What is located there now is a switch....you would need to install a pressure sensor.....

Buy a radar detector that can display voltage on its screen (Beltronics RX65, etc.)

Suction cup it to the windshield, solve two problems at once!
