1997 AWD Starter adjustment?!?!

Well, my starter gave up the ghost, and I've had quite a time getting the Repop starter to operate reliably. There is no common info available-the shimming procedure given is for 2WD models. How can I fix it? what are the torque specs I should use for the mounting bolts?

Re: 1997 AWD Starter adjustment?!?!

Turns out the AWD tranny has a plate for flywheel inspection that differs from the 2WD. It seems the repop starter doesn't fit in correctly. (Think square peg in round hole.) So I unbolted the plate, and will 'remachine' it to fit over the starter correctly. It seems that was my trouble in alligning the thing all along. Even though the raw opening of the plate is larger than the tail section of the starter-the starter has two corners that interfere with the plate. Watch out for standard repops! Measure, measure, measure! Wish me luck!
