I'd read somewhere that he started out removing the turrets from tanks abandoned in Italy at the end of WWII and selling them as tractors, then branching out into tractor manufacture.

BTW, that Flying Star is neat. It looks like someone wanted a 1960's Mazda Cosmo nose grafted onto a 1970's Jensen GT, and hired Zagato to do the work.
