2000 dodge durango starting problems
after checking the timing everything seemed ok i put the motor back together and tried to start it the first try it just hit like it was going to start and then i cranked it again and it just cranked and cranked i held the gas pedal down to the floor a couple of cranks it starts but u got to keep the pedal smashed down to run it i cut it off to see if i can start it back up without the gas pedal down to the floor and it wouldnt start its getting plenty of fuel i didnt put the air box back on and i got little vacumm lines off of it plus the pvc hoses are off too before i put this thing on together would this seem like a vacumm problem or timing still be off in the motor i dont know exactly what happened to this motor i purchased the vehicle with the motor apart there is no check engine light coming on while its running

Re: 2000 dodge durango starting problems
So you have it timed correctly and it's getting fuel right? Well then there is only one thing left. Spark? What would keep it from getting fire? Have you checked the camshaft position sensor? Crank sensor? Pcm?

Re: 2000 dodge durango starting problems
it seems to be in time i checked it at tdc and the marks looked correct cam at 12 o clock and crank at 6 i checked the fuel pressure its good but when i go to crank it if i hold the pedal to the floor and starts and i can keept it running at 1500 rpms until i let off and it dies no check engine light so idk if anything electronic could be out the plugs when they was out they looked like it had sut on them like a chalky black the more im running the more it tries to fire up without pressing the pedal to the floor

Re: 2000 dodge durango starting problems
How old is the battery? Correct voltage is needed for the computer. Have you cleaned the throttle body and all passages? The IAC motor may be bad. Start with checking these items out and we will work from there.

Re: 2000 dodge durango starting problems
i cleaned the throttle body and sensors i started it up still the same results but it takes gas real good still got to hold the pedal down to start it and keep it running at 12 or 1500 rpms i found some vacumm hoses thats off of it are they any major vacumm lines that would cause this i only found one hose and its got bends in it not kinked bends just what came from factory i dont know where it goes to though it looks like everything is hooked up

Re: 2000 dodge durango starting problems
You are on the right track, it just some little something that's not quite right. The little stuff can be the biggest headache though.

Re: 2000 dodge durango starting problems
i talked to a mechanic he told me that my engine coolant temp sensor is the problem ive been starting it with no antifreeze and by pushing the gas pedal to the floor is bypassing with air and fuel mixture i havent got to work on it yet but i will post more after i work on it

Re: 2000 dodge durango starting problems
Did you get it fixed, and if so, did it begin to start correctly?

Re: 2000 dodge durango starting problems
i tore the engine back down and had a mechanic to look at it he run one of them snap on cameras down in it and found a busted piston and a bent valve the last owner beat the cog on the middle cam and it was backwards it was actually showing timing was correct on the cogs but it wasnt actually in time so the motor is pretty much screwed its gonna cost a pretty penny to fix because 1,6, and 8 valves and pistons is destroyed
