Evaporator drain 02 taurus

Is there supposed to be a rubber hose attached to the piece of plastic coming out from the firewall? It is in the area of the Evaporator just above the steering rack. Water driplets come out from there but they seem to trickle back towards the fire wall and through the insulation. Is this the drain or do I need to look else where?

Please Help

Question Re: Evaporator drain 02 taurus

I know this is an old thread but does anyone else have this issue? I have an `04 Taurus that is having the same problem of water making it's way back into the passenger compartment and soaking the insulation.

Re: Evaporator drain 02 taurus

if your evaporator is leaking from inside you can try cleaning the drain
the drain hose comes through firewall on passanger side about mid way
down firewall.
if you need more help start a new thread as this 1 is an old thread
Good Luck

Re: Evaporator drain 02 taurus

I think I found a way to fix this problem. I took a ~3" piece of a bicycle innertube and slipped it over the end of the plastic spout. The water now is directed away from the firewall so it can't get into the passenger compartment.

curious if this is still working for you? i just discovered the same piece missing on my mom's 02 with 60k miles. i'm interested in getting the original part- and if it's used across other models (windstar?). anyone have a proper name for the drain hose?
tia,

Re: Evaporator drain 02 taurus

^Yep, still working! I don't think there is a "factory" drain hose. The spout itself is supposed to get the water away from the firewall. The piece of innertube just gets the water further away so it can't leak back into the passenger compartment.

Re: Evaporator drain 02 taurus

just a follow up. just performed this. i thought someone said to remove a spash shield to help... the rear SS doesn't uncover any other access points. i couldn't find enough room from underneath (this is a DOHC) so i did remove the wheel and with 1 hand, got it on. walmart only had a 18", and i cut about 5". put a zip tie on it just incase. we shall see if there are more problems.
thanks again!
