Is an 09 chevrolet cobalt LT a good first car?

Is it a good first car? Also is $10,000 a good price for it? It has a very little bit of hail damage and it has 72000 km on it (44738.7 miles)? I was also wondering how much horsepower it has and how fast it can go.

Re: Is an 09 chevrolet cobalt LT a good first car?

I personally would not get one for my kids as a first car. I owned a basic 2007 LT1 4dr (purchased new) without antilock brakes and I found the tire size and brakes to be noticably inadequate, particularly on wet roads. Some might disagree with this, but it is how I felt about the car and have owned many cars over my 36 driving years. It was okay on dry ground, and being that mine was totalled when a left turning vehicle did not see me and pulled directly into my path while I was driving around 40mph, I can say that the car can certainly take a decent frontal hit without breaching the passenger cabin -- the accident was nearly head-on too. I walked away without a scratch. But I believe the car needed a lot more wheel diameter and width than it came with to be safe. It always felt like it needed more rubber on the road, both when stopping and on highway on/off ramps. I believe a Malibu LS would be a much safer vehicle for a new driver. I have two of those now (a 2010 LT and 2011 LT, both bought new) and the difference in handling and braking is incredible compared to my old Cobalt.
