Porsche 917LH Hippie

My new project... the Porsche 917LH "Hippie" that raced Le Mans in 1970.

All pieces prepared and primer applied

Body painted with a mixture of X-4 and X-16 from Tamiya

Re: Porsche 917LH Hippie

Looks Great!

Question: what primer did you use?

I tried building this car recently and just could not get the paint (using same mixture of Tamiya X4 & X16 as you) to lay flat. It was always orange-peeley and pebbly no matter what pressure\thinner ratio I used. Finally I just gave it up after stripping it twice and it's sitting in a box right now.

I had used Krylon white primer on it, but now I'm wondering if my troubles weren't related to that. I've since switched back to using the Tamiya primer, but just curious what you used here?

Thanks,

ianc

Hello ianc,

I'm not at home right now, so I can't check, but I think it is PPG Microfill Primer 1500. Never had a problem with it. A friend just warned me that the color should be more purple, will try to fix that.

Regards,
Denilson

Yes, I like that color better; the first was too blue. Will be looking forward to seeing the rest of this build. Perhaps you'll inspire me to take mine out of the box again!

Nice work! Glad to see you didn't have any trouble with the decals; I was dreading that...

Re: Porsche 917LH Hippie

You did a great job with those decals! My Fisher 917 is in limbo with decal issues. The original Fisher decals were very stiff and would not lay down for anything. Tried the Colorado version but they had fit issues since I believe they were designed for a slot body. Anyway, good work!

Re: Porsche 917LH Hippie

Hello Chuck, my Fisher decals cracked when I put it on water. I used Colorado decals, but I had to cut then in several places to fit correctly.

Interior finished.
