1998 buick lesabre steering pump

I need to replace power steering pump very noisy can anyone give me some advise do I need to get under car to disconnect hoses or take other parts off to make it easier for me, any advise would be appreciated thanx

Get an AlDelco pump, and bleed the initial air out by turning the pump by hand first, than cranking but not starting the engine. Rigging a vacuum adapter to the pump reservoir (use no more than 20 inches vacuum) really helps get the air out.

But is the pump noisy because there is air in the system?

That's a very good point. You may also find flushing the PS fluid corrects the problem. I would do this before replacing the pump.
