Re: 2004 Chevy Malibu Maxx Broken Power Seat
I just discovered the same problem with my seat but I have a Malibu LT, but I'm sure they use the same seats. I'm not under warranty anymore and not sure what to do. I have the seat out and can see that it is broken in two places. Its also twisted. Does anyone know if once welded it will track straight or does it have to be lined up again? Anybody find out id there is a recall? This seams like a major safety issue given that the seat belt is connected to this frame. I'm going to Chevy with this.

Re: 2004 Chevy Malibu Maxx Broken Power Seat
I have a '05 Malibu and I have two rails that the welds have broke. I tried using JB Weld, but it didn't work. After reading these post, I find myself disappointed. I was looking to see how to replace the whole seat as an option. Maybe going to the junkyard. The seat looks to be riveted to the floor vs. screws. Any ideas on how to change out the seat?

Re: 2004 Chevy Malibu Maxx Broken Power Seat
Not riveted, it's bolted...usually torx bolts.....
In some cases, if you see no bolts on the front of the rails, after removing the plastic trim pieces, then you just remove the rear bolts....then pivot the rear of the seat(may have to recline the back of the seat for clearance) up ward, to disengage the front "hooks" from the floor, then pull back..... The Malibu's are like the Grand Ams.....never saw welds breaking on the tracks..... I would remove the lower track from the seat and send it to a mechanical shop, to have it rewelded...... |

Early seats did break, I would get it welded. Maybe room to add a gusset, then it would never break again.

I have 175,000 MILES on my 2004 Malibu Max LT, I have recently come into the broken seat issue also as it leans to the right driver side .I have recently replaced the throttle body and front hubs a year ago ( buy these wear out!). I purchased it new and over all I love my car. I am 6' 8" and have killed a few seats in my time .I found it to be more roomy than any other model
No, it is not perfect ,but GM COULD HAVE HAD A GREAT CAR WITH A FEW QUALITY TWEAKS! Last edited by bdingler; 05-27-2013 at 10:00 AM. Reason: mistake |
