Angry 2006 grand caravan water pump, engine light

Can someone please help me? I had to replace the water pump on my dodge Grand Caravan, which was challenging, but i got it done. But now the engine light is on.... why would that happen? i did take off the filter hose, and unpluged the cord to move the air filter housing, but, i plugged it back in when i re-hooked everything up. So now i am nervous that i did something wrong.
any clue why the engine light would come on and stay on? water pump works, put coolant in etc.... no leaks.... so now i just need to figure out the engine light.

thanks in advance for any suggestions.

"any clue why the engine light would come on and stay on?"

Won't know until you determine what code the PCM has stored to make the light come on. AutoZone or the like will connect a scanner and read your codes for free or you can cycle the key from acc or off to on (not start) three times ending at the on position. The code will appear in your odometer display.

Re: 2006 grand caravan water pump, engine light

RIP, everything was connect. however, one of my buddies asked me if i started the car BEFORE i connected everything, then connected everything and started to drive it.... i said yes. he said that is why the engine/code is on. that i had to clear it out, and then it will be fine. we did, and so far, everything is good. i didn't know if you start the vehicle with things not connected, and then connect it that it wouldn't see or register that it is now connected, and then shut the code off somehow. so thank you for your time to reply.

very appreciative....

Yup, your buddy was spot on. It would have reset after a few drive cycles but who wants to wait for that. Glad to hear your headache is history. The good thing is you learned a little more about how these wonder wagons work. That's always a good thing.

would this same theory apply to me plugging in the wire to my cruise control after i noticed it wasnt working? Im not getting a code but it still wont work. maybe if i unhook the battery for 10 mins and re hook it up?
(had some body/exhaust work done and they forgot to plug it back in at shop)

Probably not. That trick works on microprocessors but the cruise servo doesn't use them. Sure no harm in trying though. Not sure about an 07 but there may be a vacuum line they forgot about too.

Hey we learned something. I'll second the "never say never". Thanks for passing on the fix ex.
