2001 Rodeo V6

Can someone tell me if the actual miles are stored in the computer or the speedometer or Both?? I am planning on getting a speedo cluster because some of the soldered in Bulbs are blown and I feel it would be better to replace the unit rather than trying to solder in some bulbs. The shift indicator bulbs are not just a turn in bulb..they need to be soldered. Thanks for any replies.
