I'm wondering though, can you rub this new stuff on and then clear with say Tamiya acrylic yellow to achieve a brass color effect? Or will it dull too much?

I have some other metallic powder that I tested too. There is a "MGM Powder" from a seller from Ebay Australia that has Chrome, Yellow Chrome and Blue Chrome (I didn't test the blue, but the yellow chrome looks like gold, sorry but has no pictures of this).

There was a company called Hawkee's Hobbies that closed last year, they had at least 7 different metallic powder (yes, I bought before they close), and I tested the "brass" on the Mustang. As it was applied over black paint you can't see it very well, but over a aluminum or white it should over well, i guess.

Some kid. I would think an acrylic color of any type would dull the luster of KGS
Still do a test on a spoon and let us know

This Kosutte is designed to be applied without anything on it...

The pic below shows the same demonstration piece as featured on the instructions. The part has had one application of ...powder which was applied over a black enamel base coat, and this was done over a year ago. This part has been handled and passed around at club meets and shows, the finish has not deteriorated and the finger prints have been simply wiped away. Furthermore, as you can see, a couple of decals have been applied to see if this was possible - no problem! Best results achieved when powder is applied to a slightly soft paint surface that has not fully cured. We have also discovered that adhesion is effected if the paint has been polished prior to application, the finish is likely to become patchy and easily removed when being handled.

Regarding clear coat. To be honest, the jury is still out on this one, but it is not advised to do so. We have not been able to test all possibilities as there are a great number of options when it comes to clear coat. With the lacquer clears we have tried, they tend to dull the finish and fine crazing can be detected.

Another test....

Spoons were all painted this way: primer, tamiya X-1, automotive poliester clear coat, then chrome. We will notice the "orange peel" because they were not polished.

Now I have to apply clear coat in all spoons and check the result.

Why was a clear coat applied between the X-1 and the chrome finish??

To have a shiny finish before applying the chrome.

Very good information, Thank you!

I have quickly read through the thread, many pages, but I did not notice if anyone had tried metalizer powder over a gloss white surface?
If so, what results?
I noticed some said gloss black was best, and bright silver for others.

I prefer to use TS14 as a base. It can be applied gloss right from air-brush and then polished to mirror like appearance
using polishing pads and polishing compounds. Less coats and faster as well.

Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!

Has anyone had success in stripping KGS? I used it over a base of Gunze Super Black and do not like the results. Instead of chrome it came out more like shiny gunmetal. Maybe I will try another application of it to see if it shines up before attempting to strip it.
