I think am finally going to sell my 05 LS V8 with 120,000 miles on it and buy a 2011 MKZ.The 2011 MKZ I have found fits everything I want except it does not have the factory Navi system. My question is: If I can find and purchase a factory Navi unit from a 2011 MKZ, can it be easily swapped into the car for the regular radio? Would there be any issues in the operastion of the system if it can be swapped? My 80 mile round trip commute is in heavy rush hour traffic so I want to have access to traffic reports via the Navi system. Also, Are there regular issues that MKZ's experience that I should be aware of? I am hoping to keep the car about 5 years and to add about 130,000 miles to the car. The car I am looking at has around 5,000 miles on it currently. I understand that the Factory warranty can be transferred to me. Before it expires next year, can I purchase an extended factory warranty from Ford? If an extended warranty can be purchased, does anyone know the approximate cost? Does cost vary from State to State? I have been told that Florida, where I live, does not "permit" discounting the warranty price. I realize I am covering a very broad range of topics, but for me, buying a car causes a bunch of issues to bubble up. Everyone on this site has been so wonderful in the past; I am hoping to once again, impose on your knowledge and experience to help guide me through this purchase. Thank you in advance for any and all feedback. I will be very grateful RASCARS |

Re: MKZ Factory Navi-Can I add one? ?'s about MKZ's
My wife had a 2010 MKZ that she drove for a bit over a year and put 17k miles on. It was a great car - good size, good power, very comfortable, and overall great fit and finish. The only reason she traded it in on an MKT was because with child #3 on the way, the MKZ would have been quite crowded. We never had any issues that caused the car to return to the dealer and she bought the car new.
As for changing the entertainment system over to the factory navigation, yeah, I imagine it's possible, but not practical. You'll end up spending more than if you just hold out for a bit, or broaden your search radius, for a car with navigation. -Rod |

Re: MKZ Factory Navi-Can I add one? ?'s about MKZ's
On the LS, to swap in factory nav, you have the change out several wire harnesses, the rear view mirror, buttons on the steering wheel, add a four channel amplifier, add a DVD drive, add a gps antenna, and so on. The MKZ will be different, but it may be just as complicated. It's unlikely to be as simple as swapping out the headunit.
