Used car recommendations civic vs golf

hey im 19 and im gonna buy my first car after some research ive narrowed down my choices to 2 cars the honda civic sedan EX 2004 auto or the golf GL 2003 1.6 auto both are in my price range all though the honda is more expansive looks aren't that important to me im more interested in reliability features and fuel economy so any suggestions about these cares would be of much help both cars are in good condition from what i see i just need to pick one so i can check it out with my mechanic.

Re: Used car recommendations civic vs golf

The Civic is more reliable, cheaper to maintain, and will get better gas mileage. On paper, it's the better car.

That being said, I'd buy the Golf. Much more fun to drive.

It's one of those situations where you have to recommend something you wouldn't do yourself. Assuming they are the same price, the Civic is probably the better buy. Repairing them is much easier, and parts are dirt cheap compared to that of German cars.
