Replacing shocks with after market?
2000 chevy silverado 1500 the stock shocks are pretty shot, what i was wondering is could i replace them with 2 inch taller shock where she is level front to back. I didnt know if i needed to replace the coil springs with 3/4 ton spring or could i leave the 1/2 ton on. Any thoughts from anyone much thanks. Also looking for a good brand

also when you let the worn shocks destroy the springs this is the norm. I have 4wd torsion bars for front lift. these will also get damaged from operating with bad shocks. I have bilstien shocks on all my vehicles . ride and support is better than OEM also they last for a very long time. if you just replace the shocks and not those springs your wasting you money. |

check the body height . with the 2wd the driver side spring goes. more weight that side. if this is true replace the springs. the shocks will last longer. actually the bilsteins are a OEM shock on some trucks. with the spring replacement you should wait about 1,ooomi before alignment because the springs will set [drop] , then the alignment should hold. |

Re: Replacing shocks with after market?
thank you sir, ill check the prices of the springs tommorow and will go with the shocks you recommened. (hopefully the spring wont be pricey) never really owed anything with 170k miles she still runs good, never knew the springs went bad.

Re: Replacing shocks with after market?
I really didnt think they would be so high! i checked on the shocks $89 for both, then the springs are $168 each wow break the bank on that. Jcat is that a reasonable price for these?

Re: Replacing shocks with after market?
This has quickly turned into somthing alot more bank breaking! I ordered the shocks + springs went to install them today, and found a oil leak. i always keep my pans clean after oil changes etc.. It is a slow leak when run to hot then truned off it leaks a few drops(which will only get worse) I recleaned the oil pan i am not sure if its from the oil pan it self or from the main seal..... my guess is the main seal. But i was wondering does the motor have to be unbolted if it is in fact the oil pan or is it able to slide out freely? But likely it is the main so i was kinda wanting to get a cost in mind, and should i get the motor rebuild or anything else replaced while i get this done 172k miles org motor and trans.
