[911 Tribute] Tamiya Porsche 911 Turbo 88'
Painted with Zero Paints colour matched Granite Green Metallic, clear coat is Zero 2k. This is the pain staking polishing process i've started. The roof is about 90% done so far.
I really wish Tamiya made seperate body parts for this kit, masking will be alot of fun! :-( Thanks for viewing! ![]()

Paint looks absolutely fantastic!
I totally agree with you on the masking, I just pulled the same kit out of the pile and started removing mold lines and was thinking to myself the joy masking will offer. The 'A' pillars on mine are bent (no visible damage on box) so I am working on straightening them - any such issues with yours?

Looks pretty great so far. I dont see any hint of green though ahah.
Question for you guys if you know have knowledge on porches. If I bought this kit and wanted put another kits motor in it, which would be the most accurate? I know that revell makes the slant nose 911 with an engine but I have no idea if it would be an accurate option to put in this model. |

Something else I have found in test fitting, the exhaust sits way too low below the body, I have modified the exhaust mounting posts on mine so that the exhaust actually passes through the cutout in the bumper.

I havn't bothered touching any of the chassis/interior parts yet as I know the body will take a long time to complete.. especially polishing. I've decided to wet sand, just the main areas : Roof, doors, fenders, rear quarter panels, spoiler and engine cover. I'm going to have to take a lot of care not to sand the edges too much, so i'm going to spend no more than 2 hours a day on this model. This is the 3rd model i've done using Zero 2k clear through an airbrush (Tamiya basic airbrish system) and there is some slight orange peel. I'm really not looking forward to masking the body. :-( Looking forward to hearing progress on your 911 freakray! :-) |

Re: [911 Tribute] Tamiya Porsche 911 Turbo 88'
Bit of an update.
I've polished the body using Meguiars scratch x after wet sanding with 2000 grit to remove textured areas. The pictures don't do the shine justice, One of these days i'll get a decent camera. Body polished : ![]() The fun begins with masking the body to paint the numerous semi-gloss black trims : ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I initialy painted the trims using enamel x-18 however becuase i needed to thin it for the aribrush, it resulted in being a bit too glossy for my liking. I did some more coats but this time using xf-1. ![]() ![]() ![]() There is still one trim on the front that needs painting, that should conclude the careful masking required. The rest of the kit should be a breeze to complete. Thanks for viewing! P.S the xj220 you see in some of those shots is waiting for zero paints to be shippable to New Zealand again. Bless the Queen. |

Re: [911 Tribute] Tamiya Porsche 911 Turbo 88'
Some more progress on this one. Black trims now painted and the mess cleaned up using some fine q tips and enamel thinner. The front headlights, and number plates still need to be painted black, but that will be for another day, along with panel line washing.
