2007 Sportage smells hot and has started idling down at stop

My 2007 Sportage has had no power steering for over a year now, repaired it twice and just gave up. No A/C either for about two years. Recently it has started smelling very hot when I park it after driving over 10 miles. Twice now it has stopped while I am coming to a stop, just turns off - no noise or hesitation. Both times it has started right back up. Any suggestions for some easy (ie cheap) fixes?

What engine/transmission type? Do you have check engine light ON or was it checked for codes ? Is the smell that of burning oil ? What mileage ? Does it have a temp gauge on that model...or just an idiot light ?..
...ahh..I just realize this post is 5 months old....I guess is it solved or busted now...
