03 Wagon trunk won't latch

So, like many of us with the wagon... I use it to haul things. In the past, if transporting 2x4's or something, I have to leave the rear hatch open while driving. With no good place to attach a bungee cord on the door, I would manually close the latch, then put one of the hooks in there. When I get to my destination I would "unlock" the door, then press the button to open the latch. Well, I did this again the other day, had a bunch of 2x4's and a 4x8 sheet of plywood... transported it home, now the latch won't stay closed. I go to shut the trunk door, and it stays unlocked. The 'hook' part of the latch just won't stay in a locked position.
I dont think I did any damage by using it for my bungee hook, but anyone know of a way to get it to latch? Is it possible to take the latch apart to repair?
