2000 century Dirver side a/c blowing hotter than passenger side

I have a 2000 century with 77k miles. Recently the drive side a/c is hotter than the passenger side. Tried adding coolant but driver side is still hotter. Any ideas?

welcome to AF.

By recently added coolant, do you mean R134 refrigerant or engine coolant?

next question, does your car have the dual zone (separate temp controls for driver and passenger sides) or single zone HVAC system?

Your problem is most likely the drivers side temp actuator is not switching all the way to cold, this is a pretty common issue. The other possibility is low refrigerant or mildew blocking airflow through the evap core. The way the HVAC system is designed, the passenger side gets it's cooled air from the inlet side of the evap core, and the drivers side is on the outlet side. When refrigerant levels are low, the pass side will still blow cool, but the drivers side won't. Because of this design, the drivers side section of the evap core is also the most likely to get plugged up with mildew.

Re: 2000 century Dirver side a/c blowing hotter than passenger side

I just went through the hassle of replacing the driver's side blender door actuator because of this problem, but apparently the actuator wasn't the problem. I will try getting the freon charged and see if that fixes it. Thanks for this tip, I didn't know what to try next since I was sure it had to be the actuator but it turned out not to be....

If low on freon, the freon can "short circuit" through one half the evaporator, causing one side to be hot, and the other cool......

However, the system should be recovered to see how much of a loss you have(by weight), and have the leak repaired first....

This is a 2004 model that has never been recharged so being low on freon is a definite possibilty.

I have always wondered if freon loses it's refrigerant properties or if it actually leaks out of a system. Anyone know for sure?
