Installing aftermarket stereo in a Bose equipped Suburban

Hey everyone,

I've got a question. We just purchased a used 2003 Z71 Suburban and we love it. But it's got a 6 disc changer that doesn't work. My wife is thinking she would rather have a newer double DIN unit that has bluetooth capability and IPOD interface. Normally I wouldn't blink at this sort of install, but this truck has the factory Bose system installed. I've read that it uses a Bose amplifier and 2 ohm speakers. Has anyone ever done an install like this?

I don't mind taking it to an install place, but I just don't want to drop $1000 buying additional hookup stuff to make it work. Just curious if anyone has any input on this. Thanks.

Mark

Volume controls on the steering wheel and your overhead dvd if you have it will not work unless you spend extra coin to buy more parts. Parts that don't work are a pet peave of mine, would drive me nuts. Put a kenwood in my brothers for the same reasons. he has no steering wheel controls, no dvd, he doesn't seem to care. If I was driving said vehicle second hand and it had non working things IMO run! Resale may mean zelch to you, but since I change vehicles ~yearly, it means a ton to me. I would shop junkyards, car part.com whatever to go back with a stocker. Sucks yes, but for the sake of working parts it is the only viable option honestly. The factory Bose setup is actually pretty decent when it works. Correct me if wrong guys but I think it can take an 2000-2006 radio too. Only thing is it will have to go the dealer to have it activated, the pcm doesn't recognize it until they program it.....

I don't mind buying a few parts (I wasn't trying to sound cheap), its just that some things like this get crazy because you gotta bypass this and patch in that. I do agree that if things go crazy, I'll just look for another stock radio, but at the same time...it kind of sucks that the radio has to be activated at the dealer.

Thanks for the advice.

I would go to crutchfield and see if they can get you al the interface wiring connectors to complete this change. you can call them up and if it is possible they will have these parts for a good workable install. they do change a little more but they have good data to support your mod.
