98 Malibu Fuse Box

My neighbor can't find the manual to her 98 malibu and it keeps blowing 2 fuses. Does anybody have a diagram of the fuse box? Also, does anybody have a diagram of the bigger fuse box under the hood?

Re: 98 Malibu Fuse Box

The cover of the fuse box contains information about fuses. There are 3 fuse boxes in the vehicle the large one underhood and 1 on each end of the instrument panel. Look here

Thanks. There was no cover on the fuse box under the dash. Its the Cruise Control Module and Cruise Control Switch fuses. It should be easy to find and repair.

Re: 98 Malibu Fuse Box

I could also post some schematics for you but to summarize the Cruise Switch fuse is a 2 Amp fuse going from RH IP fuse center to the steering coil assembly for the cruise switch. This fuse is actually fed by the 10 Amp Cruise Module fuse in the same center. To me, one way that both fuses are blowing is if you are using the same fuse size in both places. I would recommend against that, the 2 Amp fuse is that size for a reason.

The 10 Amp Cruise module fuse has direct wires going to the Cruise Control Module underhood, the body module by glovebox and one of the brake switches used for cruise function.

My recommendation is use correct size fuse, make sure cruise switch is OFF and turn ignition ON. See what fuse blows. If both are still blowing then more likely the problem is with the wiring going to the cruise module underhood. If only the switch fuse blows then there is a problem with the wiring up to steering wheel. If fuse only blows when a switch is pressed....well that narrows it down further.

Good luck and if you want any more help send another post

Most of the time the lighter itself is burnt out. Try it in a known working car first.

Re: 98 Malibu Fuse Box

Of course I just hit on the info I needed on Google,it led me to the box under the hood where I was able to identify the bad fuse and luckily it was just the fuse.
