dual 312T builds

so because i bid on 2 seperate tamiya kits and won them both by accident, i will build a Regazzoni and Lauda model and display them together.
started with the tub by using the buffing metalizer testors stuff. added some ground up black and red chalk so far.
going for a mid/post race grimy look.
the metalizer works well if you go for weathered. if i were to try and do showroom new its not ideal for that

Re: dual 312T builds

thanks Nos
using the tamiya aluminum buffing metalizer and some ground up prismacolor pastal soaked in a little water and wiped away with a q tip.
the metalizer is a bit annoying as it never dries and if overbuffed needs to be repainted. im still struggling with the second chassis but need to move on.
again since its pretty raw its best to do this it seems if youre going to weather. that metalizer isnt super smooth

Re: dual 312T builds

I never give up just keep trying different methods.....Have you tried Alcad paints to get your results or that chrome powder I have heard people using Bare Metal Foil on this kit...
I have the Hasegawa kit and still haven't decided on what to do for the chassis it comes factory chromed but it is just not quite there for my liking so I am going to strip it and come up with another method thats why I asked what you did. Anyway best of luck and keep the progress shots coming

Re: dual 312T builds

i dont want to put down this metalizer. im REALLY pleased with it! if not overdone its a fantastic satin polished metal look. the aluminmum panels in the ferrari race cars of this era were super polished looking, so its easy to over polish and over do it.
but for now im sticking with this method.
i played around with tin foil and the results to me were no better and more hassle. never tried the alcad or pwders.

Re: dual 312T builds

so i tried doing a fiberglass weave pattern on the brake cooling ducts with a fabric that turned out to be too thick. found some much thinner material and will try again
this didnt really work out. but ordered a new sheet of parts and will try again

Re: dual 312T builds

Hey I have a Joe Honda 312T reference book if you need any pics out of it I would sell it to to you but I haven't built my T yet. Gladly email them to you. Looking at the vents in the book they look like they where a non-weave fibreglass with a real brown/orange look to them. can find a pic and send it to you.

Re: dual 312T builds

robrex did a larger scale of this somewhere on this forum and from memory he made a cast of the kit vents and poured them out of clear resin. If you could do that then you could play around with the Tamiya clear orange to get your effect....just a thought!

Re: dual 312T builds

Maybe next time you could use some window-blinds, that stuff is very cheap and is much thinner...and it replacates a fiberglass look your looking for

Re: dual 312T builds

nosaj76,
are there any pics in the joe honda book where they show the sidepods without bodywork? i have the 312T kit (1/12) in my stash and am thinking of rebuilding the tub from scratch using aluminium sheets, but i have not found a single reference shot where they show the car without the bodywork. and the tamiya part there is a bit lacking. i know there must be some sort of airchannel or whatnot in it, but... you don't see.
the one pic i have is shown from the front and is very small. i would love to know if there is a shot (from the side) showing those details there in the book.

and to brabham, that metallic effect looks pretty awesome. good work

Yes it is expensive, but it`s worth each cent when you want to do a superdetailed model, i have the Wolf WR1 set and it is realy awesome. I hope they come up with more of these sets for other 1:12 like the Lotus or even the P34 in future

Re: dual 312T builds

Hey sky1911,

Is this what your looking for ? If so I can get more pics for you. All the pics in the book only show the rear half of the cowling removed obviously the front was rarely removed.
