Exhaust Manifold Gasket Leak - (Fix ?)
Just bought an old '89 Jeep Comanche "Beater" 4x4 truck to get me to work in the
winter snow. 112,000 miles on it....if the odometer or console hasn't been messed with.... Had an Exhaust Manifold leak where the gasket got pushed out - or was never installed properly (?). Look at the last photo ! Methinks it was a HACK JOB ! Was told I had to have the Exhaust Manifold removed and a new gasket put on. Several hundreds of dollars. So just for the Grins of it, I stuffed Aluminum Foil into the open slot with a very thin spatula. Pushed it in as hard as I could - if it doesn't work, I lose nothing in the attempt. It is working ! ![]() ![]() The engine is running in these photos - the foil will probably come out soon, but the fact that it hasn't come out immediately might mean that the next time that I do this, I can add some gasket adhesive and it might STAY in place !
