2005 xb new high output alternator and red top opitima and now lights dimming and battery light won

I just replaced my battery with a new red top optima and my stock alternator with a new 160v high output alternator. I had absolutely no dimming lights prior to this nor have I ever even noticed my battery light on the dash. Now both are present and I could really use the advice. I cannot afford to take it to a shop right now do I'm going to have to fix it myself. I feel like it must be a faulty regulator in the alternator but I'm really hoping its not. I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you.
