94 Bird Coupe shiftng broke

Having trouble removing shift handle/knob.
Auto trans with floor shift.
Release button popped out. Broken.
Need to remove shift handle/knob for repair.

But can not figure out how.

Thanks for any help.

Depress the detent button in, hold it and pull up sharply on the "tee" knob to detach it from the shifter. On later models theres a retaining clip that has to be removed,(with needle nosed pliers). Just under the "tee" at the back of the knob. If your button has popped out i guess you'll have to reach in and push the plunger. HTH

Thanks for the info.
Problem is I can not find or see detent button.
IT has a leather cover over the tee handle/knob.

Is the detent button under the leather cover?

I'm referring to the park release button on the left side of the 't' handle... the same button that has broken on you. Press it in,(in your case it sounds like you'll have to push the plunger in), then pull up sharply on 't' handle to disengage the shift knob from the lever.
