Re: REAR window defogger tab adhesive

If you're really careful, can get the rear window heated nicely, and already own a decent soldering iron, you can solder the tab back on. However, if you're not so lucky, that can also cause the window to break, in which case the $12 wouldn't seem so expensive after all.

Out of curiosity, do you have a link to the Permatex product you're referring to? Years ago I needed some conductive epoxy and two small tubes were around $40 and the hardener dried up after the first use. If the Permatex stuff is similar, $12 would be a bargain to me.

Exactly, spending 12$ would be better than getting the glass break. So even in my suggestion you should get the Permatex.

available at oreilly's, ebay etc.

do you guys know why the window shatters? I have heard of that happening with people using crazy glue.

Re: REAR window defogger tab adhesive

From my understanding the window breaks when soldering the tab back on due to the thermal shock to the window. Since Crazy Glue is not a catalyzed adhesive I don't think it would cause the window to shatter.

I see the Permatex kit is just a glue to hold the tab to the window, and then the glue gets covered with a conductive paint. It's not actually a conductive adhesive. While it probably works just fine, it's not what I was expecting.
