Hello everyone! I'm new here! My name is Fabio and I'm from Italy.
I'm going to show you the wip of my first kit, which is actually almost done, asking you a question. I don't know if you might can see it from the pictures but the paint looks kind of dry. Should I give a thicker and "wet" coat to have it more shiny? Or the clearcoat and the polish will make everything better? Thank you and see you to next update. |

Re: My first kit: Skyline R33 (Tamiya 1/24)
What kind of paint did you use? It looks like you have good coverage, so I don't think more or thicker coats will cause it to shine. It appears you either used a flat paint, or you used a "basecoat" that requires a clear top coat.
As long as you find a compatible clear gloss top coat, you should be able to achieve gloss with a clear. Consider though that "suede" vinyl wraps are becoming quite popular on real cars, maybe you should leave it as is. It appears quite uniform, it may actually look pretty good in the finished state.... -Rod |

Thank you for your reply shorod. I'm using the Tamiya X-16.
Should I go ahead with the compound to polish it and then give the clear coat? |

Re: My first kit: Skyline R33 (Tamiya 1/24)
Hi Fabio,
I think there is alot of dust in your atmosphere, or u sprayed too far from the body, causing the rough texture on the body. But worry not, if it is not a metallic/pearl color, you could use some 2000grid sandpaper, followed by some careful polishing using normal or fine compound. that should reduce the "orange peel" effect after your clear coat. If you just clear coat it now, i have a feeling you would have a very uneven finish on the clear coat, and would need alot of effort sanding and polishing the clear coat down. cheers! |
