I been having a heck of a time with my recently bought 1999 blazer 4x4 with 3button mode switch (2hi, 4hi and 4lo) i checked under battery to make sure diaphram is working and it is all 3 buttons light correctly when i select the modes (steady on) when selecting modes i hear the TCCM in passenger kick panel and i also hear the Transfer Case making noises when i goto a dirt road and put in 4hi or 4lo it sounds like it enagages but when i drive i hear a clicking. i put the front end on jack stands (rear tires on ground) and while in park (car running) 2hi = i can spin either front tire freely and i do not see the front drive shaft even move 4hi i can spin each front tire freely and i can hear a clicking if i rotate constantly in the same direction if i rock either tire back and fourth i can see the front diff drive shaft move just a little is my chaing broken in the TC? thanks and any help will be greatly appreciated |

Re: 1999 blazer 4x4 Chain Broken in TC?
Check out the thread on 4wd operation on this forum. It is very informative and has become overrun with troubleshooting advice.
That being said, make sure you have the jack stands under the lower A-arms not the frame. If you are allowing your front suspension to flex all the way down you are definately working the CV's at extreme angles and may not necessarily be diagnosing the root cause. Now, I would suspect worn CV's before transfer case problems. So check that first. Your front drive shaft is locked to the left front tire all the time. The TC couples the tranny to the front drive shaft and the diff actuator connects the right front tire. So if you engage 4wd you should be able to rotate the front right and have the front left and the front driveshaft rotate at the same time. Test this with a friend and your results will point to the problem if it is the TC. If it is just a CV you should be able to turn the wheels and rotate each tire and pinpoint which is going bad. Good Luck and be sure to post your findings. Joules |
