95 chevy k1500 issues starting

My beloved 95 truck has been having what I believe to be throttle body issues for some time now. Currently it will not start, and seems to be flooding itself out. With in the last year I put in new cap & rotor, and yesturday I did all the plugs and wires. It cranks fine, and "almost" turns over. When I changed the plugs, the majority of them smelled of gas. So it may be a spark problem as well. I am leaning towards the "throttle position sensor" but am looking for other input.
Leading up to the not starting, I had some violent backfires.

Make sure you have good hot blue spark out of coil and on threw cap and rotor on to plugs.
Check cap for cracks.
Make sure dist shaft bushings are not worn out.
