TS-13 alternative over TS paints

I have never used anything other than Tamiya TS sprays in the past. The TS colours are of course easy to find but now that TS-13 is discontinued/unavailable in the US I don't know what to use to clear. I have a current project sprayed in TS-50 Mica Blue and it needs cleared and polished, what is recommended? I have been looking at the Testor's Lacquer "wet look" clear, has anyone ever cleared over a TS base coat using the Testor's lacquer? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I actually prefer the Testors to the Tamiya. it works very well over the Tamiya paint.

Re: TS-13 alternative over TS paints

I would estimate it lays down similar to TS paint as well? I can do several mist coats and final wet coats?

Mr Gunze Topcoat B501 can be a good alternative. It's not aggressive like Tamiya TS13 and i have never had any issues with it. Even over decals.

Best regards,
Lesley

Re: TS-13 alternative over TS paints

Many people prefer the Testors clear vs. Tamiya, but I had issues with it, as I do with nearly every Testors spray product. Maybe it's just my technique, but if shooting from a spray can, I found Tamiya much more forgiving, smoother, and thinner coats. The spray nozzles are 10,000,000,000 times better quality than the junk nozzles used by Testors.

That said, prior to TS 13 becoming obsolete in the US, I've begun decanting my spray clears, as I have done w/many spray colors, and now am using decanted U-Pol clear with great results, and it's much more economical than any hobby paint. I've found it on Ebay. I get the stuff in the gray and white can (Power Can Clear), not the stuff in the silver and orange can.

Testors clear decants/sprays beautifully. One reason I avoid it is that several people I trust report that even after it has cured, it's not impervious to being marked by anything it comes in contact with. If you wrap a model to take to a show, it might damage the paint. I cannot have that, and it's never an issue with TS 13 nor the U-Pol that I've been using.
