95 dakota 318 oil pressure guage?

ok i was changing distributer cap and router and well long story short broke the oil pressure sending unit does that sending unit run the oil pressure light too? because the light is on too and the guage reads 0 ha ha ha i fix one thing and brake something else i ask this because if it runs the light and the guage the truck is still safe to run to get me to a parts store if it soes not run the light as well as the guage than it has low oil pressure..... thanks
