Hi
I need to replace the crankshaft position sensor On my 2002 Grand Caravan Sport 3.3liter. Can Someone please tell me where it is in laymans terms. Is it better to approach from the underside Or from the hood side? I will know it when I see it but I haven't seen it yet!! Thanks everyone. |

Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor 2002 Grand Caravan Sport
Driver's side of the engine down low on the transmission case. Connector has 3 wires. Not sure about an 02 but you usually go at it from above.

Thanks RIP. Had a look around but still can't find it. I'm wondering if I have to remove something to be able to see it? On a google search I read I need to take the drivers side front wheel off? To be honest there have been some wildly varied answers. I really don't want to give in and take it to a mechanic.
It may be my lack of knowledge re an engines layout. Is it anywhere near the oil filter or starter as 'landmarks'? |

Swing by a parts store or maybe a dealership or shop. It will take them 20 seconds to point it out.

Thanks again to RIP.OK so the good news. I finally found the sensor. It is very hard to get to and see but with the battery and battery housing removed I could unscrew it. Now the bad news. It has a plastic connector to the wiring and I can't figure out how to unclip it. There is a red plastic 'locking tab' which I removed but it still won't come loose. Because of where it's at I am worried that I am going to break something if I just keep pulling on it. I am thinking that the plastic may have weathered over the years and is brittle. Any suggestions gratefully received. I thought I'd done the hard bit.

Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor 2002 Grand Caravan Sport
Once you remove the red clip you still have to push a tab in to unlock it. The red clip is just an additional lock so the tab won't get inadvertently pushed in and cause the plug to come loose.

Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor 2002 Grand Caravan Sport
Thanks for the suggestions/help guys. Finally
got the sensor replaced and car running sweetly. Learnt alot in the process and saved a mechanics fee. Taking the battery out made a big improvement in access (which was still tight) and allowed me a better line of sight. |
