Need a 16" steel wheel

Hello all,

We've had an encounter with a curb, requiring replacement of the 16" sport wheel (and the tire) on the front right. I replaced both tires to have a matching pair, but the remaining tire has plenty of life and tread left so I want to make a full-size spare out of it. I purchased two spares over the course of the two weeks it took to locate and receive the new wheel and tires, and they both wore out very quickly. Which Ford truck should I be looking for a 16" steel wheel from?

Re: Need a 16" steel wheel

I upgraded to a full-size spare because I tow on a trailer on many trips (donut spares aren't rated for towing) - but I have 15" tires, so I didn't have to research 16" steel wheel options.

After some quick checking... This chart of Ford lug patterns:

http://www.vehicle-bolt-pattern.com/...nce-guide.html

...shows that the Windstar uses a 5x108 pattern (5 lugs evenly spaced on a 108mm - or 4.25" - circle). It doesn't look like this is a terribly common pattern - but it did appear on Thunderbird and Taurus models. Sorry, it doesn't look like this pattern was used on Ford pickups.

After a quick glance on eBay: I suspect your best option is to find a used 16" steel wheel from a Taurus. It looks like you might also be able to find a Volvo version of this wheel.

Re: Need a 16" steel wheel

I put in a 15" full size spare even though I have 16" wheels. It should be fine.

As to which type, I just went to pull-a-part and walked around until I found one that matched the windstar. Not much science to it.

Re: Need a 16" steel wheel

I bought a new 16" steel wheel from Ford parts. $80 ... but quick and clean.

Re: Need a 16" steel wheel

I was in a hurry when I needed a 15" steel wheel for my full size Windatar spare, and didn't have time to make it to a wrecking yard. I got a new aftermarket wheel from a local wheel/tire retailer, and recall paying in the neighborhood of $50 some years ago.

Wow thanks Phil. Hadn't occurred to me to check for a resource like this. I will head to the junkyards with this information in hand- thanks!
