Question Camry 2002 Electrical Issue

I own a 2002 Camry. There is a peristolic draw on the battery when the car is turned off. The dealer can't figure out where the draw is coming from. two toyota engineers are shaking their heads. The amperage draw is 6 amps or better. It is intermittant. Its not the following: the seat controls, multifunction relasy switich, or alternator.. Anyone have any ideas. They pulled all the fuses when the amp draw was registering-no luck in locating the draw.

That's a good one. Did the engineers pull the fusable links? Without a schematic I can't be certain about much but, there should be two or three near the battery. It will at least give you which main circuit is the bad guy. From the hip - starter.

Re: Camry 2002 Electrical Issue

If it is just one component that is pulling the current, i.e. Radio, Door Lock, Window Motor, or Rear Defroster; if its pulling 6 amps when its not supposed to, chances are it won't function properly when you turn it on. I would test every electrical component in the cabin; wipers, washer sprayers, windows, locks, lights, rear defroster, radio/tape/cd-player, courtesy lights, cig-lighter/acc. port, etc. And see if anything doesn't work right. It's at least worth a try if all else fails.

Re: Camry 2002 Electrical Issue

I have a very simular problem, if the car is not driven for 3 to 4 days the battery is dead, if driven every day stays charged. But i have discovered that the electric windows work all the time, if the ignition is on or not. Key does even have to be in. what would cause the windows to stay powered all the time? I think this has something to with the draw on the battery. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Camry 2002 Electrical Issue

I could not find an electrical diagram for windows but other devices are powered through the ignition switch. It might be defective what is unlikely. It would be nice to know your car's model, mileage and year.

After ignition switch I would check all relays. Most likely they are located under the hood. Try pulling them out one at a time and try activating windows. If that does not help you find the problem you will need to find an electrical diagram.

I hope this will help you,

Sam

Re: Camry 2002 Electrical Issue

worked all day yesterday trying to find the problem. No luck. I used a multimeter and checked the draw on the battery, and then pulled every fuse and every relay i could find, and seen no change. And the windows still work with out the key in the ignition. I found the window relay changed it, still no change. The olny thing i did not change is what one guy called a intergation relay, which is suppost to be on the back side of the fuse panel. I could not find anyone that even listed one on the web for sale so i didn't want to try and pull it if i could not get a replacement. and it looke to be very difficult to get to. P.S. also before i started working on the window issue. i had problems with the speedo going to zero and the it not shifting like it should, so i change the speed sensor, and it seemed to fix the problem, but it came back last night. Any suggestions on either problem would be great.
