1998 buick century

Sometimes both the yellow abs light and now the red brake light will come.
It happens just after start-up and will go away if I restart the car.

I know this is a warning of some trouble soon but everything works fine as of now.

I know the switch under the emergency brake can cause the red light to light.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Low brake fluid will also cause the red brake light. If the ABS light comes on when you start it, then goes out, thats normal. If the light stays on you need to have the code(s) read to see what the problem is.

Re: 1998 buick century

The problem went away after my battery died.

I replaced it and now no yellow or red lights.
The old battery must have an occasional short.

It seems as if voltage can cause this problem too.

You are correct, low voltage will cause all sorts of problems!
