4.6 L Spark Plug blowouts...

Hello,

I have been hearing about spark plugs blowing out of the Triton V8 engines, due to only 4 threads in the alloy head...! I have '95 and '97 T-birds with the 4.6L V8, and wondering if this is a risk in these cars. I called a local Ford dealer service department and they told me it never happened in a Tbird. I have a couple friends who have had it happen, one in a truck and the other in an Excursion. I think these may be larger engines than the 4.6, and and so perhaps more likely to blow...

In any case, my question is, has anyone here heard of a Tbird that blew a spark plug....?

Second question, if it did blow a plug, can you drive it home on the remaining 7 cylinders...? (Or would the computer sense the failure and shut down...?)

I'm guessing you should probably pull the wire off the injector in the disabled cylinder if you wanted to do this....?

thanks...!

My '95 has over 70K miles and I never had any problems with a plug blowing out. My '97 only has a little over 7K miles so I can't say anything about how that year's engine does over many miles!
