Thumbs down 2000 Grand Am SE Tranny?

So hi, I have a 2000, automatic Grand Am SE with 161,000KM in her and everything seemed to be working fine but as I was driving it today my speedometer just stopped working and when I try to get her up to second gear she kind of jerks forward, if that makes sense? Also, today when I was driving she couldn't gear up at all, she just went from first to second to third to fourth gear without picking up any speed.

I'm not a car savvy person at all but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the transmission?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is there any light on on the instrument cluster? like ABS or check engine soon? You could have a faulty ABS sensor, many cars use those sensors for the vehicle speed, which the ECU use to make it's gear decision... I do not know however if this is the case for your car.

Re: 2000 Grand Am SE Tranny?

it will shift normally even with a bad wheel speed sensor(s).
Sometimes it will also drive and shift with a bad VSS, just depends on how much the sensor is failing.

I would start by having the trans fluid level checked.
If that's good, get it scanned with a scan tool that can read trans codes. Other wise you are just guessing.

Also you might check your fuses for anything to do with the trans.
