fixing up a 97 grand am gt..need advice
Hi I am putting this out to anyone who can help. First I am fixing up a nice 97 gt that was not appreciated by its last owner..! The last two problems I have to fix are the sun roof and the a/c. The sunroof...the roof opens but will not close. I have taken the motor out of the headliner and hooked the switch up without it being in the gears..same thing it will run in the open/vent position but when I hit close nothing. I pulled a sun roof motor from a newer gt they dont match but wired the switch up to the old motor and still nothing? I figured it was a switch problem..could the motor be bad? How could it work in open but not close? Any thoughts?
Second the car has no condensor? anyone ever replaced a condensor? The lines were cut and have been open. Is there a way to flush the lines and attach a new condensor? Any help on this would be appreciated. No sun roof and no A/C gets kinda hot. Thanks |

Re: fixing up a 97 grand am gt..need advice
For the A/C, you might forget about it. Dirt came in, humidity affected everything, compressor might be damaged.
For the sunroof... The system is pretty basic.... Sadly kinda too basic... You have the sunroof control module. The motor connect to it. Vent limit switch to the module Soft stop limit switch to the module And finally the open and close switch to the module. Power get from the breaker on the left fuse box to the module. Ground goes to the left side of the instrument cluster OR left side of the passenger compartiment... First step would be to check if the module get about 12V when you try to close it. If it does... check the vent and soft switch... I have no indication on which do what. I suppose the vent one is to open slightly, while the soft is an open or close limit. Also, check if the sunroof is too hard to move. They might be monitoring the current draw by the motor to figure out when the sunroof hit the limit (open and close). If it's too hard to move it might falselly trigger the limit, making the module think it's fully open/close. If all look good, the module might be defective... |

okay here is my two cents
replace the condensor put some oil in the system evacuate and recharge it and i bet it works. the sunroof has a soft limit switch that will prevent it from closing. i can send you a schematic and some other info but it has to be emailed to you. |

I think I'm going to try replacing the condensor and see what happens. Would be awsome if you could send the schematic.

Re: fixing up a 97 grand am gt..need advice
another issue with sunroofs is if they are not greased properly they wont always open/close and trip breakers and fuses.
On the AC, if lines were just cut, you might have a problem getting it to work unless you replace everything thats been cut.
