In search of a new sedan, help me condense my list down.
I currently own a 2003 Mazda Protege with 153k miles. I've replaced just about everything in it except the engine, but to it's defense it was a former rental car that my parents bought from Enterprise. It also has quite a bit of cosmetic damage from having been hit twice. I think it's just about time for a new car, one of my choosing finally. I'm looking for a sedan (for when I have kids), fairly roomy, reliable, and at least 32mpg since my Protege gets 28mpg. Here are the cars that I've researched and like in terms of looks. These cars are also in my price range ($14k or below):
Nissan Sentra Mercury Milan Toyota Corolla (2010-2011) Mazda3 (2008-2009) Chevrolet Impala (2008-2010) Chevrolet Malibu (2008-2009) Hyundai Elantra (2010) Suzuki SX4 (2008) Kia Rio (2010) Saturn Aura VW Jetta Honda Civic I'm looking for opinions on these cars, but I'm open to suggestions as well. |

Re: In search of a new sedan, help me condense my list down.
VW's are usually a good car, haven't heard any friends complain about them. I like the 2000 and up nissan maxima's their pretty roomy not sure on the mpg's but they got a like peppy v6 in them, and if you plan on having kids you want a good amount of space in the back cause a baby's rear facing car seat is pretty big, i have a 95 explorer and i can't lean the seat back how i want if the car seat is on my side. The milan doesn't sound bad, roomy looks good on the inside. I don't like the corolla, sentra, aura, elantra, sx4, rio, and the mazda 3, cause their to small for a family, as much as i like chevy i don't advise the malibu or the impala, because you won't get as much options as you would on an import. If going with honda i would get the accord, its a little bigger than the civic, again roomy is always going to be better. If you have a kid then plan on a car seat, stroller, diaper bag, and other misc. stuff. I have 2 and now need a bigger vehicle because of there stuff and hauling groceries and or friends and their stuff, i need more room. Kids are expensive.

Re: In search of a new sedan, help me condense my list down.
The Impala won't give you the mileage you're looking for
The SX4 is kinda cheap and low quality. So is the Kia Rio. Not that they're unreliable, they just have a lot of cheap components that squak, rattle, work oddly, knobs/handles that easily break, etc. They're kinda a downgrade from your current car, other than being newer. The Sentra, Jetta, and 3 are most like what you have now, just newer/better. Corollas and Civics are overpriced in my opinion for what you get. The Aura and Milan you can probably get a good deal on because their brands no longer exist. However, the Aura is very mechanically similar to the Malibu and the Milan is nearly identical to the Ford Fusion, so you don't have to worry about them being "orphans". If you're looking for a mid-size and are on a budget I'd definitely give them a look.
